Keeping Our Residents Active and Engaged
Our Activities Director, Marsha DiCesare, designs an activity program that is ever changing, and recognizes the importance of residents being actively engaged throughout their day. We take into consideration the nurturing of mind, body and soul when planning our monthly calendar. Brookhouse Home is a vibrant, independent residence. It is not unusual to see our ladies out walking or enjoying our patio and garden. Our activities staff will often be crafting with the residents, leading a nature walk, guiding a meditation group, supervising yoga or dancercise, or reading a book in our most popular activity – Book Club! Parties for all occasions are a favorite of our residents, where birthdays or other special days are celebrated.
The Healing Power of Music
Research has shown that listening to music can reduce anxiety, blood pressure, and pain as well as improve sleep quality, mood, mental alertness, and memory. At Brookhouse, we host a variety of musical performers as well as holding our own musical activities. Our music appreciation sessions explore the different types of music and instruments, artists and their histories, and lyrical meanings. Our residents also enjoy sing-a-longs and holiday choir practices leading up to our holiday party performance.
Onsite Spa Visits
What woman does not like a spa visit, or having her hair done? We have that on-site here at Brookhouse. Janet, our hairdresser, provides services in our new “salon” and weekly manicures are offered to our ladies . We are also fortunate to have a volunteer program that brings with it students from our community who provide a young and positive energy to our home. Local women’s groups and associations enjoy visits to Brookhouse where they enjoy trivia, current events, or just tea and conversation with our residents.
