Brookhouse Home “Class of 2023” Completes ‘Matter of Balance’ Course
November 15 was a note worthy day for our residents as they completed the ‘Matter of Balance’ course receiving not only a certificate of completion, but also a graduation ceremony marking the occasion. The course was sponsored by the National Council on Aging and through a series of workshops, residents were encouraged to set goals and make small changes to reduce fall risks.
Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries for older Americans. Falls threaten seniors’ safety and independence, and generate enormous economic and personal costs. However, falling is not an inevitable result of aging. Through practical lifestyle adjustments, evidence-based falls prevention programs, and clinical-community partnerships, the number of falls among seniors can be substantially reduced.
Brookhouse Home receives generous donation from the Salem Garden Club
The Salem Garden Club recently informed us that they had been very successful in their fund-raising efforts this year and in years past. They had initiated a plan to make annual donations to deserving non-profit organizations in Salem.
They polled its membership and the non-profit Brookhouse Home was selected to receive a donation for 2022 of $2000. They requested that the funds be used for something garden-related. Thank you to the Salem Garden Club for the kind and generous donation. Massachusetts Preservation Grant Awarded to the Brookhouse Home
The Brookhouse Home was awarded $10,000 for Window Repair and Restoration. Listed as the Benjamin W. Crowninshield House (c.1810), the original owners of our home, the grant funding reinforces the great needs that our many historic buildings have and the amount of work the organizations responsible for them undertake. The work we do today ensures these important parts of our history and community remain for the future.
“It is such an honor for us to receive this prestigious grant,” said Judy Kane, Administrator of the Brookhouse Home. “We cherish the history of our home, designed and built by Samuel McIntire originally for Benjamin Crowninshield, and we feel so fortunate that Preservation Massachusetts and the 1772 Foundation also supports our efforts to preserve and maintain this beautiful home.” Please read more here.
